As autumn descends on southern Ontario, it brings closure to the 2009 race season for Tiemersma Motorsports. This season has seen its ups and down for Tiemersma Motorsports both the highs of celebrating winning races for Derrick and Tony, and also the lows of bringing home a wrecked race car with the knowledge of having only a few evenings after work away from the family to repair the cars in order to go take a chance for that “high” or “low” again. In the past weeks Tiemersma Motorsports has brought its season to a close. The 17th Autumn Colors Classic at Peterborough Speedway has been the finale of the OSCAAR season for the past few seasons but this year because of rescheduling due to rain, the October fest weekend at Flamboro Speedway became the finale of the season. During the Autumn Colors Classic weekend the #7 Wayfreight of Derrick Tiemersma was running 2nd in the championship with a 147 point deficit to the first place #22 team. However after finishing 5th in the feature after a charge from the back after a mid race spin and some hard luck by the #22 team, Derrick and the crew we faced with only a 50 point gap to first and a chance to capture their second OSCAAR championship. Moving into the final race of the season Tiemersma Motorsports spent a week of making sure the #7 Wayfreight car was ready to race, which included rebuilding much of the suspension of the car as well a full check over of every component to make sure there would be no mechanical failures during the race weekend. At the track the #7 team and Derrick were paid back with a car that handled great in practice and the heats. Unfortunately when the time came for the feature race of the evening the car became too “loose” by mid race, which meant that Derrick could only manage a 4th place finish which brought the #7 Wayfreight a mere 37 points behind the #22 of Glenn Watson. Everyone at Tiemersma Motorsports would like to congratulate Glenn Watson and the crew of the #22 team for their second championship. The Autumn Colors weekend also proved to be a good weekend for Tony Tiemersma in the #7 limited Late Model. When we arrived at the track Tony’s car was fast right off the trailer, which only required a few adjustments on the way to a heat race win and a 3rd place finish in the end of season race. Tony plans to come back again next season for a partial season once again. Now begins the “off season” for Tiemersma Motorsports. The next few weeks will be organizing, planning and eventually we will begin the teardown and rebuilding process. Tiemersma Motorsports would also like to thank all of their sponsors for their continuing support of us. Once again special thanks goes to Wayfreight, Castrol Oils, Bosch plugs, Gunk Products, Clevite Engine Parts, Victor Reinz Gaskets, Wix Filters. Tiemersma Motorsports would also like to that OSCAAR for another great season and extend thanks to all the series sponsors for their support of this great series. Hello Everyone, Tiemersma Motorsports finally got to the track again this past weekend at Peterborough Speedway after Mother Nature had rained out the last two races since Sunset Speedway on the Canada day weekend. This past weekend would give us a chance to have both Tony (in his late model) and Derrick (in the Oscaar Super Late) a chance to run at the same track on the same night. When we arrived at the track we were greeted by threatening skies that eventually gave way to a beautiful sunny day. In the first practice session Derrick was quick but had to pull off as an oil line had come loose on the car. Tony did not have much better luck in the late model as he came off the track citing brake issues. Needless to say the crews were busy and annoyed at the little gremlins that had creped up. Even more so since the cancelation of the previous races had meant a complete nose to tail check of the cars and a major mid season maintenance on both. With the oil line repaired Derrick went out in the second practice session and was immediately posting some impressive lap times, right away we were happy with the car and made only some slight adjustments for the heats in which Derrick would post a second and third in his heats. Meanwhile after finding a faulty front brake master cylinder and a broken sway bar mount on Tony’s car, we rushed to get his car ready for the first heat. Tony would win his first heat and come home third in his second. At the start of the Super race Derrick would line up sixth and would have a race long battle in the top five. At the start of the race Derricks car was pretty good but as the laps counted down the car kept getting “loose” off and Derrick would have to settle with trying to protect a solid top five finish coming home forth at the end of the night. After the feature we were able to diagnose a “rouge” tire that had grown to the incorrect size that caused the handling issue that would keep Derrick from moving forward at the end of the race. Tony in the mean time was on rails in his Late Model feature. Starting third at the start of the race he would move into the lead after only a hand full of laps and was able to stretch his lead over second place eventually coming home with a comfortable lead at the end of the race. Both Derrick and Tony are in action again this weekend. Derrick and the #7 Wayfreight will be in action at Kawartha Speedway this Friday night while Tony is in action at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night. Thank you, Tiemersma Motorsports Hello Race Fans, After a 2nd place finish at the first race of the season Tiemersma Motorsports headed into the 2nd race fo the season at Sunset Speedway with high hopes of regaining the Don Biederman Memorial trophy. The day started off well for the team, only having to make a few adjustments before the first heat race in which Derrick would start 4th. AS the heat started Derrick was able to move up a few positions and finish a close 2nd to Glenn Watson. In the second heat Derrick would again start 4th and again finished 2nd only this time to Rob Clark. After the heat races the crew performed a few more adjustments hoping to make the car better for the feature in which Derrick would start 2nd. In the feature Derrick would hold onto the 2nd place position following the #22 of Glenn Watson until a hard charging Jeff Hanley would pass them both for the lead at lap 15 and then hold that position for the remainder of the race. In the mean time Derrick was battling the #22 for most of the race, and seemed to be getting better as the race ran on. At points the #49 of Rob Clarke was able to get to the back bumper of the #7 Wayfreight, but as a long green flag ran on the #49 slipped back and Derrick was able to get to the back bumper of the #22 car. Unfortunately a late caution with 14 laps to go meant that Derrick was lined up on the outside line with lapped cars ahead of him. With his tires cooled down the #49 was able to get past Derrick on the inside line and Derrick was unable to pass him again before the laps ran out. In the end the #7 Wayfreight car was a good car but no match for the #70 of Jeff Hanley (nor was anyone) on this night. Congratulation to Jeff and his crew on an outstanding night of racing. Tiemersma Motorsports will be in action again this weekend at Mosport Speedway. Thank You Hello Everyone, After a long winter, Derrick and the crew of the #7 Wayfreight super late model are ready to take to the track for the first race of the Oscaar schedule at Kawartha speedway this coming Friday night. Last Friday we took the #7 Super late model to Kawartha speedway in order to shake down the car and become familiar with some of the suspension, and engine changes that we performed over the winter. The first session of practice was supposed to be only a warm up session in order to warm the car up, check the brakes, and settle the suspension…but after 5 laps it was obvious that Derrick was happy with the car. The next 5 laps saw the #7 turning lap times that equaled our practice times of last year and since we had old tires from the 2008 season on we decided to bring him in. After a few minor shock changes we sent Derrick back out and were able to gain a little more time on the clock. At this point we decided to do the sensible thing and load up and head home for the evening. So please come see us this Friday night at Kawartha speedway as the 2009 Oscaar season takes off. On the other side of the shop both Tony and Gerrit Tiemersma have been busy in both their Late Model and Kart. Tony has shown great speed in his first two races of the year at Sunset Speedway. Opening night however Tony had a gear set go bad on his during practice, which meant switching to another gear set that was not quiet the proper gearing for the track. With the delay Tony was not able to make his first heat race but was able to win his second heat race. When the feature started Tony would end up starting back in the field and was caught up in an early caution that would end his night in the door bars of another competitor. This past weekend Tony ran again at Sunset Speedway and was able to take his second heat win in as many weeks and finish second in the feature race. We’re all hoping to see you at the tracks this summer. Let the 2009 race season begin! Tiemersma Motorsports is pleased to announce the start of their 2009 racing season with Tony Tiemersma taking to the track this Saturday night at Peterborough Speedway. Most of the winter was spent rebuilding, revamping and replacing on the car but, the past few weeks have seen both crews racing to put the finishing touches on Tony’s Limited Late Model which will be raced under the #7 once again in 2009 while travelling to multiple tracks. Concurrently work has been moving at a feverish pace on the Super Late Model side of the shop. The body of the #7 Wayfreight super late model of Derrick Tiemersma was completed last week, while the finishing touches are being made to the suspension this week. In the meantime Matt at Speedy Automotive has put the finishing touches on the new motor, and has the dyno slated for this weekend, so if all goes well this weekend we hope to have an engine to install in the car by early next week. Tiemersma Motorsports would also like to welcome back all of their sponsors for the 2009 season. Thank you to Wayfreight, Castrol, WIX filters, Clevite engine parts, Victor Reinz Gaskets, Bosch plugs, GUNK and Speedy Auto Machine. We would also like to announce Tiemersma Motorsports first podium of the season, as our driver development program moves into its second season, with Gerrit Tiemersma finishing 2nd in the first race of the season in the novice class at Goodwood Kartways. I have posted some new pictures and once again and see you at the track Derrick and the rest of Tiemersma Motorsports would like to thank Rick Way and everyone at Wayfreight for their continuing support going into the 2009 racing season. We are currently preparing the Oscaar Super Late Model in anticipation of trying to reclaim our championship form of 2 years prior. We would also like to Thank Wix filters and Gunk for their continued associate support. We are also happy to announce that Tony Tiemersma will be returning to racing in 2009. Tony will be fielding a car in the competitive limited late model division, with plans of running at multiple tracks this summer in the southern Ontario race scene. If anyone is interested in becoming involved or supporting Tiemersma Motorsports please contact us at tiemersma_motorsports@rogers.com Thank you Tiemersma Motorsports Merry Christmas From All of us at Tiemersma Motorsports we would like to extend a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of our fans, competitors and sponsors. May you all have a safe and happy holiday. Derrick Tiemersma and the crew of Tiemersma Motorsports. October 12th too many Canadian Families meant turkey dinner, but for those of the southern Ontario racing community it meant the 2008 autumn colors classic. To Tiemersma Motorsports it meant the closing to the 2008 OSCAAR championship. The 2008 Thanksgiving weekend brought Tiemersma Motorsports to Peterborough speedway for the finale of the OSCAAR championship. The weekend started on a somber note in practice on Friday afternoon when Derrick with the help of the Hanley’s discovered the front shocks had failed on the #7 Wayfreight. Within hours of practice we had replaced the shocks with a new set of shocks provided by the #52 Mark Gordon crew. When practice started again on Saturday the car was much better, with only some minor adjustments to be made to the car. In the first heat race Derrick would start 7th, but would be able to climb up to the 4th position by the end of the race. In the 2nd heat Derrick would start on the pole and finish 1st with a strong running #70 behind him. With the heat races over Derrick, my self and the crew were happy with the car, but still had some changes to make. Sunday’s race Derrick would pull the seventh position in the start of the race. For us this would be bad luck as Derrick would get shuffled to the back at the start of the race after starting in a poor position. After an early caution Derrick was able to start picking up positions until lap 16 when the caution would come out for #68 of Stu Robinson Jr. who brought out the caution. Under the caution Derrick received damage from another competitor and had to pit to repair damage to the #7 Wayfreight. The one high point for this caution was a battle of the crews of the #68 and the #7. At the beginning of the night Derrick and the #68 of Stu Robinson Jr. were tied for the 2nd position of the OSCAAR championship. So as the two cars pitted, both crews worked feverishly to get each others car out first. Lucky for the #7 crew, we got out before the #68. Derrick and Stu would then put on a great show for the crowd as they came up through the field, never more than one position away from each other. When the night was done Derrick came home 5th in the race while Stu came home 7th. Winner of the race went to Jeff Hanley who had put on a clinic again bringing home his 5th feature win of the season. With his 2nd place finish, Glenn Watson secured his first OSCAAR championship. Derrick, the crew and I would like to extend our thanks to OSCAAR and everyone involved for all the support as the 2007 champions and would like to congratulate Glenn Watson and his crew for their accomplishments during the 2008 season. Were already getting ready for 2009… Tiemersma Motorsports takes Oktoberfest Classic at Flamboro Speedway. Heading into the 2nd last race of the season, Tiemersma Motorsports was looking for its first win of 2008 and to get back into the points battle for the 2008 OSCAAR championship. Arriving at the track Saturday we decided that since we were only getting one practice session we would have to treat the heat races that evening as testing session if the car was not handling properly. After the first (and only) practice however we were not 100% happy with the handling of the #7 Wayfreight, so we would head into the first heat race lined up 3rd and finished 3rd with some minor suspension changes having been done. Once the first heat was completed we decided one some major changes for the 2nd heat of the night. So as Derrick lined up 3rd once again, this time he was able to get to the lead of the race and give the crowd a good show as Derrick and the #83 of Ian Bourque battled for the lead with Derrick beating him to the line. With heat races done for the night Tiemersma Motorsports packed up for the night and planned changes for the #7 for the next day. Arriving Sunday the Tiemersma Motorsports crew quickly got to work on a number of changes to the suspension that were decided on and discussed the night before. In of first of two practice sessions we knew we were on to something so for the final practice session we scuffed tires. With the results from the night before in the heat races, Derrick would line up 2nd for the feature race of the night outside of the #70 of Jeff Hanley who had lead the field for most of the weekend and definitely the car to beat up until that point. At the start of the race Derrick would pull in behind the #70 as the two of them would pull out a small gap over the #22 of Glenn Watson during the first 18 laps. On lap 18 the #40p would spin bringing out the caution, then on the restart the #9 spun keeping out the caution flag; this would also be the end of the night for the #70 car when his rear end broke under caution. On the next restart the caution would fly again for a violent wreck on the back stretch that would see the #18, #7T, #54 and the #83 involved. Everyone was glad to see all the drivers were un-harmed; however the #83 and #7T were both damaged beyond repair for the night. With a lengthy red flag period the drivers were now informed that the race was being shortened to 30 laps. With 12 laps to go, Derrick had the #7 out front and was hoping for 12 green flag laps, and that is pretty much what we got as the #7 Wayfreight car got better on long runs and lap after lap started to pull out a gap over the #22 in second place. Tiemersma Motorsports would like to thank all of our supporters over the 2008 season, we are now back in the hunt with one race to go in the season and are hoping to return the Tiemersma name back to the Autumn Colors Classic. Thank you Hello Race Fans, Tiemersma Motorsports pulled into Kawartha speedway on September 19th with the hopes of doing one better then our 2nd place finish at Delaware. Kawartha has always been a great track to race on and the site of one of our feature wins last year. The car was good in practice needing only fine tuning in preparation for the heat races which we were hoping to do well in and gain some valuable points. As luck would have it, the schedule was so tight that it was decided to only run one set of heat races. So on this race day a good finish was needed to sit in the top 8 for the draw for the feature. Once again luck would come into play, but this time bad luck as Derrick was unable to get past some cars after starting at the back of the pack and was kept out of the top cars that would get to draw for the top 8 positions in the feature race. We lined up 12th for the feature and after some cautions and some good racing we managed to climb to 5th spot and as the top 5 were evenly matched that was as far as we would go. With that finish we are now sitting 3rd in the championship chase have had a week off to prepare for the final 2 weekends to cap off the 2008 season. With the season quickly coming to a close, Tiemersma Motorsports is getting ready this week for the October Fest weekend at Flamboro Speedway. Thank you all for your support through the 2008 race season. Hello Race Fans The Tiemersma Motorsports team were excited and pumped up to be returning to Delaware Speedway, not only for the fact the track is a fast one but also because it was the Don Biederman memorial race. We wanted to repeat our win of this race last year and were confidant that we had a shot at a repeat. The car felt good right out of the trailer so we limited the amount of practice we needed and waited for the racing to start. With a win and a 4th place result in the heat races we felt all the more confidant. With the result of the draw we lined up 7th for the feature event, and got ready to settle into 75 laps of good Oscaar racing. With a few minor cautions and the car handling well by the end of the race we were running 2nd behind the #70 of Jeff Hanley and although once in awhile it looked like we might have something for him , in the end we ran out of grip and that is where we stayed. We were satisfied with the result and certainly closed up the gap in the championship chase . This past weekend Mother Nature unfortunately had other plans and Mosport was cancelled so we look forward to Kawartha this coming Friday and an exciting finish to the Oscaar season. Hello Race Fans I know its been awhile since my last update so here goes Tiemersma Motorsports has been in action twice since my last update, At Peterborough we finished a disappointing 14th after being involved in a lap 45 wreck that ended the night for us. After our disappointing finish at Peterborough Speedway, the team rallied together to get the car ready for the next race at Kawartha Speedway. At this point we would like to thank the efforts and the offers from many of the OSCAAR teams that offered both parts and time to Tiemersma Motorsports in order to get ready for Kawartha, special mention going to Jeff Hanley for repairing our rear end housing and to Mark Gordon for “loaning” some parts to us that could not be ordered in time for the next race. Then it rained…so we all went camping. So Tiemersma Motorsports was off to Mosport Speedway this past weekend, expectations were to get the car back to its winning ways after a dismal opening to the season. During the first practice session it became clear that our hard work had paid off and that the car was back to a point where it was only fine tuning that needed to be done. So for the next two sessions we concentrated on getting the car ready for the feature by “scuffing” tires in to make sure we had a set that were exactly the same as the practice set. In the first heat Derrick would line up 3rd, and bring home the checkered flag in 1st. In the second heat we would line up near the back and come home 4th. When it came time for the raffle for the starting line up, Derrick reluctantly drew his starting position (he doesn’t do to well at this). Tiemersma Motorsports would start the #7 Wayfreight from the pole for the first time in its OSCAAR career. At the start of the race Derrick would hold the lead for the first 6 laps before a hard charging Shane Maginnis would take the lead from Derrick, and then we would lose another spot to the eventual winner Glenn Watson in the following few laps. However as the laps counted down the #7 Wayfreight began to find its rhythm, and the longer the green flag stayed out the better the car got for Derrick as he clawed his way back up to the rear bumper of the #22 car ( with a hungry and hard charging Jeff Hanley on his tail). Derrick and Jeff Hanley would put on a show for the crown as they fought hard for 3rd place behind the two leaders, but unfortunately the #70 car would retire with engine issues with only a hand full of laps to go. On the ensuing caution the leader would pick up a flat that he would not notice till the restart of the race. This would hand the lead over to the #22 of Glenn Watson. On this night the #22 was clearly the class of the field. Derrick was able to get the #7 Wayfrieght super late model up to the rear bumper of the #22 but was never able to mount a challenge. congratulations to Glenn Watson and the crew of the #22 OSCAAR. Next up for Tiemersma Motorsports is a rescheduled race at Peterborough Speedway this coming Saturday. Thanks you This past weekend Tiemersma Motorsports pulled into Sauble Speedway in hopes of a return to our winning form. With a beautiful sunny day ahead, the #7 Wayfreight was running in top form again. During practice we made some minor suspension changes to the car and were able to get the car handling very well in time for the first set of heats. For the first heat Derrick would line the #7 up on the outside pole and would take the lead by the end of the first lap, eventually stretching his lead out and winning the first heat. In the second heat Derrick would line up on the back row, but would make it up to 5th by the end of the heat. New for this season in OSCAAR is the lottery system for choosing the starting top eight cars. During this process the top eight drivers from the heats draw numbers out of a hat 1-8 to determine the starting order of the top eight drivers in the race. Once again the Tiemersma luck prevails, with only the 1st, 4th and 8th positions available for Derrick to pick. Derrick picked the 8th position. During this time the crew was busy on the #7 car (while Derrick was picking his 8th starting spot) changing the rear end gears after we decided that we required a little more rpm out of the engine for the feature. We also decided to make adjustments to one of the shocks in order to tighten the car up a small amount for the feature. Lining up 8th on the front stretch in front of a huge crown the #7 quickly started making positions and was quickly into the top 5 for most of the race. Most of the race Derrick and the #70 spent in the top 5 swapping positions as they moved up into the top 3. However as the race wore on the car’s handling began to tighten up too much for Derrick who began to lose ground to the top 2 cars and would have to fight hard to keep his 3rd position as he raced the #68 of Stu Robinson jr. for the last ten laps of the race. As the checkered flag dropped Derrick finished 3rd bringing home our first podium of the season and a return to form for the Tiemersma Motorsports team. This weekend Tiemersma Motorsports is active again as we race at Peterborough Speedway for the first of 3 times this summer. Thank you for your support Greetings race fans This past weekend Tiemersma Motorsports visited Mosport Speedway for its first of two shows. Mother nature however decided not to co-operate with racing. After waiting till 10:30 pm the race had to be cancelled on acount of rain. The night was not a loss as far as Tiemersma Motorsports was concerned though. After two races of mediocre handling, we were able to pinpoint the problem and the #7 Wayfreight super late model was back in winning form. This weekend is an off weekend for Tiemersma Motorsports, so we plan on scaling the car once again followed by a major "check over" of the car before making our way to Sauble Speedway on July 26th. Thanks again for stopping by Mike Hello Everyone I hope that everyone is having a great summer. Although the weather has been a little dodgy the first few weeks of the OSCAAR schedule, the past few have been beautiful. This past weekend Tiemersma Motorsports returned to Sunset Speedway for the 2nd and final visit. We arrived early in the day for practice and just could not seem to get the handle on the car. After finishing 3rd in both heat races we found a bad shock and replaced it for the feature to come. Then when we lined up 8th on the grid and by lap 2 we got turned and had to restart at the back of the field. The car was a bit better but the feature would then go green the rest of the way and we steadily climbed back up to 7th. Not the stellar day we had hoped for but we plan on giving the car a good work over this week in preparation for Mosport this coming Saturday. With nine more races to go on the OSCAAR schedule, there is lots of time left for Tiemersma Motorsports to mount a charge in the defense of our 2007 championship. Thank you again for all the support, we hope to see you at the track and please feel free to stop into the Tiemersma Motorsports pit area. Thank you, Hello Folks Sorry it has been a while since I updated the site. Tiemersma Motorsports enjoyed another 4th place finish at Sunset Speedway during its first of two stops at the Barrie area bulling. Practice started early for the OSCAAR Super Late models so Derrick and the crew were able to get lots of practice time in order to sort our the car before the heats began in the evening. In Derricks first heat he would line up on the pole and not look back, collecting Tiemersma Motorsports first checkered flag of the 2008 season. In the second heat Derrick would line up 7th and climb up to 3rd by the end of the heat, collecting some valuable point for the season. It was however becoming apparent to both Derrick and the team that the set up of the #7 Wayfreight car was not as good as would of hoped for the evening. So before the feature lined up Derrick and the crew made some suspension changes we hoped would help during the feature. At the start of the feature Derrick w ould line up 2nd beside the #49 and would stay in the 2nd position until just after lap 35 when the #88 of TJ Woolsey made a move under the #7. After a late race caution it was obvious to the team that our changes to the car were not helping Derrick as he fought to bring the car to the finish of the race. During the dying laps of the race Derrick was passed on the last corner of the race to finish 4th. Not exactly how Tiemersma Motorsports wanted to end the race, but with the car handling the way it was, 4th was a good night. Congratulations to Rob Clarke and the #49 crew for getting back to their winning ways. Tiemersma Motorsports will be in action this Saturday June 28th at Flamboro Speedway. Welcome race fans Finally the 2008 OSCAAR season is under way. Tiemersma Motorsports traveled to Kawartha Speedway this Friday to defend its 2007 championship title. On this hot Friday Tiemersma Motorsports were challenged by two different issues with the car during practice. One being an oil leak that caused us to miss the first practice and a second suspension failure on the left front corner of the car that maid the 2nd practice session to make us wonder what else the car had in store for us. Once we had the oil leak under control and the suspension repaired the 3rd practice session rewarded us with a good running car that was ready for the or one and only heat race. During the heat race Derrick would line up 7th, but was able to move up quickly as it was soon evident that Derrick and the #70 car of Jeff Hanley were the class of the field. At the finish line Derrick would end up 2nd to the #70 car, but Derrick was very happy with how the car was handling and was ready for the featu re race. For the feature race Derrick would start 8th, and would quickly move up a few positions during the first few laps in a fast paced race. The first caution would come out at lap 3 for the spinning #00. At the restart Derrick would restart 7th and would lose a position in the next few laps as he got shuffled back as the pack battled for positions but would bounce back and start gaining positions after a 2nd caution for the #19 who lost a motor. After this restart the race pace increases as the race went 30+ laps without a caution. During this time Derrick was able to mount an offensive and bring the #7 though the field and climb up to the 4th position before the next caution around lap 40 for a spinning #03 and #89. At this point however the #7 Wayfreight was all but used up from battle through the field and Derrick was unable to mount an attack at the #70 of Jeff Hanley. Derrick would cross the line 4th on the bumper of the #70. So the first race in the books and all of us at Tiemersma Motorsports are happy with the winter changes to the car and are looking forward to our next race this weekend at Sunset Speedway. In Other Tiemersma Motorsports news we would like to report the second race win for Gerrit Tiemersma in his first year of go-kart racing at Goodwood raceway Hello Patiently waiting race fans...race season is only a few weeks away Well the votes are in and tallied in Inside Track Motorsport News reader’s choice awards. I (Derrick Tiemersma) was able to finish 2nd in the voting for “Stock Car driver of the year” to the Nascar Canadian Tire series champ Andrew Ranger. Congratulations to Andrew, his team and crew. This nomination alone was a great honor to myself and my crew at Tiemersma Motorsports, I would like to thank the employee’s of ITMN for nominating me and I would like to give a big thank YOU the fans for voting for us. Derrick In Sponsorship news It is with great pleasure that Tiemersma Motorsports would like to announce a partnership between itself and GUNK Canada ( www.gunk.ca ) for the 2008 race season. Gunk makes over 300 automotive products under many well-known and well-respected names, including Solder Seal®, Gunk®, Liquid Wrench®, Engine Brite®, Puncture Seal™ and Tite Seal™ to name a few. We look forward to our partnership with GUNK in the coming season and hope to bring their product to the forefront in the highly competitive OSCAAR racing series. There will be news in the next week and pictures of the car as we start into full racing set-up mode as all the components of the car have come together. Thank you Hello Race Fans AS some people may have noticed, Tiemersma Motorsports has started a young driver development program. There are pictures of Steve Tiemersma's sons race Kart on the picture page. We will be keeping people informed of his progress this summer. Meanwhile Derrick and the #7 crew took delievery of the Speedy Auto Machine engine last week and have since been busy installing it in the #7 OSCAAR. Although the engine has not changed in dimensions, the car has. This has been proving rather difficult for the routing of some of the oil lines, so the process has been slowed considerably. I will make sure to post more information about the engine installation later this week. Thank you Hello Race Fans It has been a bit since I updated the site, and I have been getting some e-mail's asking what is going on at Tiemersma Motorsports. The month of March started off with the car making a trip to the Canadian Motorsports Expo, where it was on display in the OSCAAR booth. When the weekend was over it was time to focus time on both hauler and the generator for the trailer. The middle of the month brought Tiemersma Motorsports yearly pilgrimage to Bristol Motor Speedway, fun times were had by all. The only bad thing ablout going to Bristol every year is that you suddenly have an urge to be back at the track. If only the weather would cooperate. This week has meant back to business for us back at the shop. With some back ordered parts showing up we were able to finish the suspension, as well we were able to fill and bleed the brake system. for the rest of the week there will be a few more suspension parts to fit while we wait for the Speed Auto Machine engine to arrive in the next week. In other Tiemersma Motorsports news, we are happy to report that the shop will be growing by another race car (Kart) this summer, as Gerrit (Steve's Son) will be getting behind the wheel of a kart this summer. I would also like to report that there is a few more things for sale on the Classifieds page Thank you It is with great pleasure that I and Tiemersma Motorsports would like to announce the return of all our sponsors and associate sponsors for the 2008 racing season. We look forward to defending our 2007 Oscaar Championship and without the primary support of Wayfreight and associate support from Castrol, Wix, Dana, Gates, Clevite, Victor Reinz, CRC chemicals, Bosch and Speedy Auto Machine it would just not be possible. We would also like to thank Inside Track for nominating us in the Canadian racer of the year category for the reader’s choice awards. Preparation for the 2008 season is well underway and we are all looking forward to another exciting season of Oscaar competition. Thank you for all your support Derrick Tiemersma Hello Race Fans Things are by no means slow at the Tiemersma Motorsports shop during the month of January. Derrick, the crew and I are busy building a new body for the #7 Wayfreight super late model in time for the Canadian Motorsports Expo (Feb 29th-Mar 2nd) at the Toronto Congress Center. This week marked the end of building panels. Now we have removed the body again so we have better access to the chassis. While the body is off again...Ken, Simon and I are busy installing the suspension, the brake system, and the fuel system. Next on the agenda is fitting the "dummy" engine in order for us to build and locate new oil lines for the "dry oil sump" system in the car. We do not however expect the engine to be ready for the show. The 2007 championship winning power plant is scheduled for assembly in the next week or two at Speedy Auto Machine. As things sit we are still waiting for a few parts but the bulk of the assembly can be performed. On a side note there is still 6 weeks to get you votes in for Derrick in the Canadian Stock Car Driver of the year award at Inside Track Motorsports News www.insidetracknews.com/ Hello Folks This season it would seem that Inside Track Motorsport News has nominated Derrick for "Canadian Stock Car driver of the year" So please stop by and fill out the form at: http://insidetracknews.blogspot.com/2008/01/inside-track-readers-choice-voting-is.html Please vote for Derrick and please fill out the rest of the form for all the other racers nominated. Thank you Hello Race Fans I hope that everyones holiday season went off with out a hitch. We at Tiemersma Motorsports were busy with family over the holidays, but were also able to make time to go to the race shop so we could make preperations to the #7 OSCAAR super late model for next season. Over the holidays Derrick planned to build body panels to replace a few of the damaged ones form last season. However after a few panels, it became obvious that building a new body would be easier than repairing the old one. So over the holidays we have been building and fitting all new panels for the #7. Now the work going into the #7 is not only skin deep. While at Jeff Hanley's shop, we had quiet a few suspension upgrades added to the car. We also are building new brake lines as well I have been asked to build a new wiring harness for the car and install an updated ignition system into the car. I will have some new pics up this week. Thank you Hello Race Fans Since my last update Tiemersma Motorsports has been busy. November 17th was the Oscaar Annual banquet. During the dinner Derrick received the trophies for both rookie of the year and for the 2007 championship. Also on hand was Rick Way, who received a replica of the 2007 championship ring from Derrick and the folks from Oscaar. Everyone at the banquet had a great time as we danced and partied into the night. Back at the shop we have taken our chassis to Jeff Hanley’s in order to have multiple updates done the front and rear suspension. This weekend we will be picking it back up in order to start building and installing new body panels on the #7 Wayfreight super late model. Also on the schedule for this winter is a new wiring harness and new ignition system. Although the old system never failed us, we did however find some issues that have facilitated the replacement of the system. I will update things as they come along. More recently Tiemersma Motorsports has been in the news again. The current issue of Inside Track Motorsports News can be found on shelves with the #7 Wayfreight on the cover. Inside there is an extensive Oscaar year in review which includes interviews and reports on Derrick and the rest of the 10 ten in the 2007 Oscaar points. Please check back for updates, I will post more news after we pick up the car this weekend. Thank You Hello Everyone Things have been busy at Tiemersma Motorsports since I talked last. In the last update I talked about us taking the #7 OSCAAR to Aurora Automotive to dyno the car. Since then we have come back to the shop to Strip the car down in order to send it away to Jeff Hanley in order to get some of the chassis repaired and have some updates done at the same time. I have posted some pic's on the Pictures page, and updated the classifieds. We have also joined the FaceBook phenomeno at www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6207569369&ref=mf So if your in the area stop in to see some older archive photo's of Tiemersma Motorsports Thank You Well even though the season has just ended, Tiemersma Motorsports is busy getting ready for the 2008 season. This weekend we traveled to Aurora automotive in order to use their chassis dyno in order to evaluate the Speed Auto Machine engine, and to test some engine modifications for the 2008 season. I have posted some photo's of the car on the dyno on our pictures page. While testing we discovered some very helpful information for the 2008 season. The use of the Aurora Automotive chassis dyno was a great asset in determining both helpful and detrimental changes to the car. We would like to extend our thanks to Jeff and Paul for letting Tiemersma Motorsports use the dyno this weekend, and a thank you to Matt for taking time off his weekend to come by and tune the Speedy Auto Machine power plant. If you are interested in a professional and confidential dyno, please contact Jeff or Paul at Aurora Automotive. They are set up to test most cars, including race vehicles. Their number can be found on our sponsors page (click the logo to enlarge) On a side note, I have started a facebook page for Tiemersma Motorsports. This will give you access to more pictures and some video's of us. www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6207569369&ref=mf Thank you Good Morning race fans Just a quick note for all of our fans. This coming Monday October 29th, Derrick will be interviewed on Race Time Radio at 8pm. So syop by and listen to find out what Derrick thought of his first year in Oscaar. www.racetimeradio.com Even with the 2007 over, Tiemersma Motorsports is busy. This weekend we will be taking the #7 OSCAAR to be put on a dyno before we strip the rest of the car for our planned winter projects. Check back for pictures next week. If anyone is interested in race parts or equipment, I have once again updated the classified section. Also I have posted some pictures on our pictures page of the trailoers we have for sale. Thank you This weekend was the running of the 15th annual running of the Peterborough Speedway Autumn Colors Classic. Once again Tiemersma Motorsports was hoping to take home top honors at the speedway that had been the bearer of top results to end the season. In the 2007 event Derrick was hoping to bring home the OSCAAR championship with a win if possible, while Tony was looking to shake up the Limited Late Model field and try to bring home the top honors for the Tiemersma flag. The weekend would start for us early on Friday morning when Derrick and Simon would take the #7 Wayfreight Oscaar super Late Model to Peterborough Speedway in order to get some much needed Practice. Meanwhile Tony would bring his #7 Limited Late Model to the track on Saturday Morning. Saturday was to be a day of practice and heat races, but Mother Nature had different plans. We awoke to cloudy skies and rain for most of the day. This meant that both Derrick and Tony only got ten minutes of track time for the entire day before heats were cancelled for Saturday. This would mean a long busy day on Sunday for Tiemersma Motorsports. Sunday would bring overcast skies, but no rain. Rain was not the only thing missing from Sunday however. No divisions were given practice. Most classes went into their heat races with little practice on their cars. Tony would be going into his only heat with new tires that were a question mark as far as the handling question went, while Derrick would be going out onto a track that was completely different than the track he had run on Friday night. Derrick would start his heat race from the pole but quickly found his car was not handling as well as he wanted or as good as the #61 of John Fletcher who started on the outside pole. So after two laps Derrick tucked in behind the #61 and finished the heat in the 2nd position. Tony would start his heat in the 4th position and finish in the same position, but not without pressuring the 3rd place car for half of the heat. After field inversions and draws Derrick and Tony would both start in the 10th positions in their respected classes Of all the features run on Sunday night, the Oscaar race was probably the least eventful with only three cautions. This was helped by the lack of cars on the track however. With attrition being a large factor on the car count at the 2007 finale, there were no less than 10 cars missing due to mechanical failures or severe body damage. With the #7 Wayfreight starting in the 10th position, we had two plans for the race…Win the race or win the championship. Obviously winning the race would more than secure the championship for Derrick, but with the #49 or Rob Clarke and the #22 of Glenn Watson running away with the event, and having to start mid field switched us into “win the championship” mode just past the halfway point of the race. It would seem however that’s not as easy as it sounds. At lap 40(ish) while following the #62, #61, and the #15 Derrick would have to make some quick decisions to avoid a spinning #15 of Al Shepstone. Unfortunately race control felt that Derrick had caused the spin of the #15. This would mean Derrick would have to line up in the 9th position with ten laps to go. Derrick however would bring the #7 WayFreight home in the 8th position just ahead of the #61 of John Fletcher who had a tire go down on the last lap. Of all the feature races on Sunday…Tony’s was the most eventful. Tony would take the green flag in the 10th position and make his way up to 6th by lap nine. The #7 Limited Late Model was again showing how much it loved Peterborough Speedway as Tony moved up to the 5th position by lap 10 to pressure the #47 car. On lap 19 Tony was able to get under the #47 and make the pass for the 4th position only to lose it to the #47 car on a restart on lap 25. Tony would regroup and pressure the #47 for that 4th position for the next 20 laps. Around lap 50 Tony was able to make another run on the #47 car, this time get by for good and into the 3rd position as both him and the #47 had just passed the #43 that was running in the 3rd position. After passing the #47 Tony set his sights on the #19 of Gord Shepherd, but was unable to make a clean pass as the laps counted down. At the end of the race Tony brought his #7 home in the 3rd position. So with the 15th annual autumn colors classic in the books, we cannot say that we brought home a first place feature trophy. We can how say that we brought home an Oscaar championship for Derrick and a winning effort drive for Tony, 3rd place looked like a win to most in the crowd. With the season at an end we would like to thank a lot of people who have helped Tiemersma Motorsports in the 2007 season. Rick Way, and all of his staff at Wayfreight trucking services. They have been great supporters of Derrick for years now. We feel great to bring home a championship trophy for them in 2007. Other great supporters of Tiemersma Motorsports would include: Wix Dana Filters, Gates Belts and Hoses, Victor Reinz gaskets, Clevite engine parts, CRC chemicals, Castrol Oils, BOSCH spark plugs, Speedy Auto Machine and Aurora Automotive. The final people we would like to thank is all the fans, supports and workers in the Canadian Stock car community. In Oscaar we found a great group of racers, fans, officials, and friends. We would also like to recognize the efforts of all the efforts of the other drivers in the Oscaar field for keeping us honest. You guys are a great bunch to run against. We WILL see you next season….Derrick says I am allowed one day off before getting ready for 2008. Its a boy! Derrick, the crew and I would like to send out our best wishes to Matt and Jodi Pettit in welcoming Ryan Matthew Pettit into the world tonight. Mom, Dad and baby are doing fine. This past weekend was Tiemersma Motorsports second trip to Flamboro Speedway. Hopes were riding high on not only keeping our points lead, but adding to it. During the first practice session on Saturday Derrick was happy with the handling of the car, until we checked the RPM of the engine. The Speedy Auto Machine powerplant was running very close to its limit. The choice was then made to change the rear gear to slow down the motor. During the process of changing gears we noticed that one of the gear boxes was empty, and that gear box that was empty was a rather high gear. Apon further investigation we found out just how loyal the Tiemersma crew is. During the week I had been asked what gear to put in and quickly respnded with a gear number. That gear number was way left of the mark, but the crew put it in anyway. Good job crew, bad job crew chief. Luckily no gears were in upsed down though. Moving on After the first practice Derrick would start 4th in his first heat and bring the Wayfrieght #7 home 2nd. in the second heat Derrick would start 5th and come home 2nd again behind the #20 car of Shawn Chenoweth. With two second place finishes the #7 Wayfreight would line up 6th for the feature race. During the first 5 laps Derrick would drop back to 6th behind the #61. Then on lap 10 the caution came out for a wreck involing the #14,#61, and the #49. At this point Derrick would restart 3rd and would spend the next 16 laps following the #22 of Glenn Watson up into the 2nd position as the #22 lead the way. On lap 26 the caution would fly again, this time for a flat on the #52 of Mark Gordon. While the #52 was pitting, one of the spectators noticed that Derrick also had a flat. So we had to bring Derrick into the pits under caution and out of 2nd position. After pitting Derrick would restart 7th and was able to move up to the 6th position as the laps counted down. This week we are meticulously rebuilding the #7 car once again in time for Autumn Colors this thanksgiving weekend. This weekend both Derrick and Tony will be in action again. Now for Tony's weekend This past weekend Tony was alos racing his Unsponsored #7 Limited Late Model at Flamboro Speedway. Last weekend however Toynwas racing at Kawartha Speedway when the #7's powerplant starting making some unpleasant sounds. Apon return to the shop on Friday night of last week, it was decided that the engine needed replacement. Tony and Siebe were able to pick up the new engine on Wednesday morning. That night the crews both poured onto the #7 LLM in order to install the engine and scale the car a what seemed like the same time. During the first practice session Tony's and the crews efforts were returned with a great handling car. Tony was more than pleased with the car, that would net him a 1st and a 3rd in his heats. This would give him the outside pole in the feature race for Sunday. When race time came Sunday afternoon we were happy with the car and were hoping for great things. As the green flag flew Tony would battle the #9 car for 1 or 2 laps before pulling ahead on the outside to take the lead, that he would stretch out till lap 40. Around lap 35 Tony started to notice his brake pedal getting soft and by lap 40 he had no laps left at all. The only safe thing to do was to pull the #7 pit side and retire. Bad luck this week, but we are busy getting the #7 LLM of Tony Tiemersma ready to do some racing this weekend at Peterborough Speedway. See you at the track
